I REFUSE THE DEFAULT
Every other poster in this gallery is a “we”. This one is an “I”, and the grammar is the whole difference — “I refuse to become a demographic” is a position someone has taken, not a rule for the household, and it would sound like nagging in the plural. The list is about taste more than money: “I know the difference between popular and good”, “I don't outsource my taste”, “I'd rather discover than be targeted”. It never uses the word minimalism, which is the point, because most of it is not about owning less but about deciding for yourself what is worth owning. “I would rather wait than settle” is the line that does the most work, and “I consume less and experience more” is the only one that sounds like a resolution rather than a fact. Subway Manifesto suits it because the style argues: it sets the short declarations enormous, pairs the rest into dense rows, and runs the heading up the left edge like a spine.
